What do I need to do to become a member?

To be brief, you must fill out an application and receive the necessary number of positive votes from members within one month. However, in order to do this, you must contact and communicate with members of the guild. Our members take new applications seriously and will NOT vote for a person if they have not met them(in-game, in irc, or any other method described in out Contact link). However, if you are friendly and easy to get along with, a positive vote will not be hard to attain.

What do I need to do to become an applicant?

You must fill out an application. Click on the Members button on the main page of our web site and then on the "New Membership Applicants" link. There you will see a list of the current applications. Then click on the "Become an applicant" link. There you must fill out the form by answering questions. You will be asked to enter several pieces of information. The most important information is your name(it will appear EXACTLY as you enter it on your member page). Keep in mind this name should be your "in-game" name and not your real name. It is not necessary to provide us with your real name(although your real E-Mail address is important). Also very important is your guild password. You choose, at the time of application, what password you will use to access the secure areas of the website once you become a member. With this password you can also change any other piece of your membership data once you are a member(DO consider this password carefully and remember it). Your E-Mail address is also important during the application process. The "Reason for joining" field is important in that how you present yourself to the guild will help determine how fast you become a member.

To Main FAQ

How many votes do I need to become a member?

Your application will inform you how many votes you will need to become a member. This number is based on the number of members participating in the realm(s) you apply to. The number of votes you receive is a combination of positive and negative votes. Each member can vote only once but may change their vote at any time. If someone votes against you that will negate one of the positive votes you have received so far. However, you have to have done something really bad to get a negative vote from someone, in which case, you'll probably be receiving more negative votes soon.

To Main FAQ

How soon do I need to get all of these positive votes?

You have one month from the time you enter your application to receive these votes. As soon as you receive the last vote, your application will be converted to a member page. The system is entirely automatic. Once your member page is up, your password will be activated and you will be able to access member only features on our website.

To Main FAQ

Do I need to enter my E-Mail address?

Yes. We need a valid E-Mail address to contact you. Most ISPs offer E-Mail addresses so you may be able to use them. If your E-Mail address is used for work and you are restricted from using your address for gaming purposes, you do not have to use that address. However, in that case you'll have to get another E-Mail address from your ISP or an online E-Mail service such as iname.com. Bottom line, we need to be able to contact you by E-Mail somehow.

To Main FAQ

Can I change any of my information later?

When you become a member you will be able to change any piece of your information except for your "In-game" name. But you will not be able to change any of your application information for the next month so choose what you enter wisely. If any inappropriate material is placed in an application, we reserve the right to remove the application.

To Main FAQ

How long will my application be active?

It will disappear automatically from the application page after 1 month's time if you have not received the necessary votes. At that point you may reapply to the guild but you will start with 0 votes again and you will have another month. You may reapply as many times as you want.

To Main FAQ

Can I just become a member now?

NO! We take our application process seriously.

To Main FAQ

What's "IRC"?

The acronym stands for Internet Relay Chat. It is an internet chat room. The Eternal Flame hosts an IRC server at irc.eternal-flame.org . Our members meet in channel #ef occassionally. Generally there are not too many people in the channel but during the afternoon and early evening (Eastern Standard Time) you are likely to find a few members there.

To Main FAQ

What if I don't have an IRC program?

Our "Contact" page has two Java IRC clients. You may try these if you do not have a stand alone IRC client program. Also on the "Contact" page are pointers to where you may find a separate IRC program to connect to our server along with instructions on how to set it up and use it.

To Main FAQ

What if my browser doesn't support Java?

Java is required to access the Java IRC clients but is not needed on any other part of the web-site. So you will not be able to use the Java clients if your browser doesn't support Java.

To Main FAQ

Should I put down on my application my other guilds' names?

The Eternal Flame has specific rules about being a member of another guild and they are explained in section VII of our Ethics. You cannot be a member of EF in one game if you also are a member of another guild in that same game. You needn't put those guilds names in the application but you should make that information known to EF members. If a member is found to be in another guild in the same game they claim to be participating in EF, it is grounds for removal from the guild. If an applicant is known to have joined another guild before that applicant received the necessary number of votes to join EF, it is within the power of the guild to remove the application from the Eternal Flame website.

To Main FAQ

Do I need ID to become a member?

We need only what we ask for on your application form. Most important are character name, E-Mail address, the game(s) you will be participating in, and the division you will be in.

To Main FAQ

What's SWG, NWN, UO, or EQ?

SWG is Star Wars Galaxies, NWN is NeverWinter Nights. UO is an abbreviation for Ultima Online. EQ is an abbreviation for EverQuest. AC is Asherons Call and AO is Anarchy Online. Presumably you should already know this as you are here. They are all massively multiplayer online roleplaying games(MMORPGs) except for NWN. For more information you may check the website links on our front page for each of these games.

To Main FAQ

The Application page is asking me for a password. What is it?

The application page is not asking you to enter an existing password. It is asking you what you want your password to be when you become a member. This password will remain private in our system until you become a member. At that point, you may use that password to access secure areas of the Eternal Flame Website so don't forget the password you enter here. The password is encrypted in the database so no one will be able to tell you what it is.
